Are they, among collectors, considered part of a full set? Or more a gimmick / their own thing?
Apart from that, would you consider bying a graded one (obviously MS69+) a waste of money (they seem to be about 165€ but I have not looked extensively) in a sense that they might drop in value strongly?
I am a little bit considering buying one just to have „one perfect specimen" - unattainable for the original coins. Edited by HP2001PH 07/20/2022 08:09 am

Just my personal opinion, I think they are a gimmick to sell more product. If I was to buy one just because I like them, it would be MS70.Also, if I was to buy one of the 2021 dollars it would be the Peace dollar. John1

Obviously those are in more demand. MS70 seem to go for 400€ (just checked MA-Shops), almost double that of the Morgans.

I was able to get the Peace dollar and the San Francisco for $85.Thought about getting the rest but trying to purchase missing examples of the original series took precedence over that thought.Even was thinking about MS-69's at a lower price but was afraid of a strange smudge or scratch I would have to look at that prevented it from getting an MS-70. So for now I'm no longer interested and am happy with my original Morgan collection and have lost interest completely.Plus I'm broke now,Ha! Ha! Retired at 54 five years ago and going for Social Security in about 3 years at 62 1/2.Heck no I'm not waiting for 65 or longer. Gezzzz!Time flys ehhh!Seems like I was 28 or 30 five years ago.

I don't consider them part of the original series, they are just commemorative coins to me. That said, as a Morgan collector, I do have them all. I have a MS-70 in the CC privy and MS-69's for the other mints. I didn't want to pay up for MS-70's for all of them. I also missed the boat on purchasing them from the mint when they were released, so I bought them all, already graded, in the secondary market.

It also seems they are hard to get in Europe. Shipping will be significant, tax and duty will come on top.
I will pass until I can find one locally.

They are not part of the original series . Like anything else mints around the world produce these days ..simply round stamped metal disc Revenue enhancers . Enjoy!

I can kind of understand this standpoint.
On the other hand its the same US mint and they *are* official currency in contrast to all those bullion coins that are spewed out everywhere on the world..

They're beautiful coins; completely worth getting for aesthetic reasons alone! The issue I had was the quality control issues: coins fell out of their capsules or had really egregious smudges on them. I had one Morgan that had some kind of oil on Lady Liberty's cheek-really awful. I sold that one at cost letting the buyer know exactly what the problem was and showing him close-up images of the smudge. I would be careful about buying a raw one without clear images of the coin!!!!!

There is one thing that bugs me a little about the new 2021 dollars. They would be much more appealing to me if the had the original metal composition.Like the the originals in 90% silver. The metal just looks weird to me like it's coated with aluminum paint or similar to the metal they used making the (Lost In Space Robot.)

Quote: They would be much more appealing to me if the had the original metal composition. Totally agree with that. After I got my first one in, I really debated about getting the rest. They just aren't as appealing to me as the original series. However, my completion mindset took over and I ended up with all of them

I think of them more along the lines of the gold Mercury, Standing and Walking Liberty coins. More commemorative/bullion than part of the original set.
