i have a 1977 no mint mark quarter would it have been caused by grease I guess I goofed up and forgot to upload pics on my previous post so I will try it again

no mint mark means it was minted in Philadelphia.
The black is caused by some sort of environmental toning.

It was at one time one color from what toned the coin. Now with the circulation removing the coating on the coin that caused it to be dark, the original color is coming back as the coating wears off on the coin. That is what your are seeing on your coin.
