Hi all, I've come into these Jefferson nickels with really cool toning, and I want some opinions. Do you think it's natural? Thanks in advance! N. #1. #2 #3

I say they are natural, nothing comes to mind to why would someone try to artificially tone Jefferson nickels.

Looks natural to me. Nickels tone a nice gold or blue. Although,IMHO this kind of toning does not add any eye appeal. John1

Not unusual under certain conditions to have a slight gold toning.

Looks good to me. Remember, all toning is a natural process. The question you should be asking is how much help (if any) did someone intentionally give it and will the market find it appealing.

There is no such thing as "natural toning". Toning is either market acceptable or not.
In this case, that gold toning is normal for nickels and completely market acceptable.

Neither "Natural Toning" nor "Artificial Toning" are an accurate way to answer the question you should be asking, which is if the toning is market acceptable or not.

Quote: Neither "Natural Toning" nor "Artificial Toning" are an accurate way to answer the question you should be asking, which is if the toning is market acceptable or not. The source of ANY toning is completely irrelevant. You'll drive yourself batty trying to figure it out the source - it's an exercise of futility. The endless internet debates I've seen over the past 20 years are ridiculous. NONE of it matters because it boils down to this one simple principle.

I should add - I have a few nickels in mint plastic that have acquired this gold toning.
