I was just reading through my Coin World magazine and noticed that the price of a 2008 clad proof set has almost tripled. I've not heard of any reason for this increase and the only thing that comes to mind is that it's the last year of the Lincoln Memorial cent. Would this be enough reason for such an increase or is it something else?

Thanks,
Bill

Average close price on ebay is around $50 They are no longer available at the mint. Price usually jumps a little when the mint stops selling then settles down. However I am not sure what the mintage figures for the 2008 clad set are and they may be lower than normal.

I just did a search of some of the dealers that I buy from and most were sold out. I searched completed ebay and saw average around $45-$50

I did see 1 dealer asking for $50 just for the Quarters and have seen some high prices for Hawaii Quarter, But no idea why?

I picked up a clad quarter set for $10 today at a show. Figured that was a steal.

After a fine cigar and a cocktail, it came to me that IGWT will now be on the obverse of the Presidential dollar coins instead of on the edge and the change to the Sacagawea "Native American" reverse designs. 2008 is the last years for six different coin designs; the pres & saq dollars & Lincoln Memorial cent.

I kinda doubt that will affect the value of the Presidential dollars though.....(despite how excited the t.v. snake oil salesmen get).......it's just not a very popular coin no matter what they do to it !...

I need to show my "rookie-ness"...what is a Clad Proof Set? Are they sold separately from non-clad proof sets?

A non-clad proof set would be the Silver Proof Set(red lens). The standard proof set(blue lens) is the same clad composition as circulating coinage.

Also the last year for the State Quarters. AND the lowest mintage of all the clad proof sets. I believe it is under 800,000
