Die anomalies abound on this coin - it's been great fun to study.

I still think this would grade AU-58.

No die crack by the date and I still stand by my original AU.

Any idea what the black spots are?

I discussed it with the seller before purchasing; he was of the opinion that it was not verdigris. In-hand, I am not so sure, but it came nicely-priced and I'm going to take certain non-invasive steps to see what can be done for it.

I think it might be the start of verdigris, look between the EN in cents there are two raised bumps and light green radiating from them. I think I would be a little concerned whats going on there. I'm not sure if it's the same on the lions leg but I would keep and eye on them to see it it gets any larger.

I'm most worried about the spot on the paw:

Your 2¢ coin certainly looks better than the one I pulled out of my dealer's bulk coin box the other day. Mine is worn even smoother than the one in your avatar, SuperDave - I can't tell that a date was ever on it, although I was able to narrow the time span by what remained of "mier" and "roi" on the date side. No verdigris on it, just a huge crack through the "c" in "cent", lol.

SuperDave, it seems that there is some corrosion going on, on the paw and leg. I can't recall the name at the moment but it's not quite verdigris.
