Mine has a few corrosion spots, but I am pretty sure it's this same coin pointed out by Mr. Diamond in a recent post to his Error Coin Information list. I was very interested in his post, as I had wondered how this error occurred. I thought others might be interested as well. The auction does not have a close-up picture, but I'm 90% sure it's from the same dies.

Close up shots, explanation after:

Cud-+-Floating-Die-Clash

Cud-+-Floating-Die-Clash

Cud-+-Floating-Die-Clash

Cud-+-Floating-Die-Clash

(reprinted with permission)
This is one of about half-a-dozen Cuds associated with a floating die clash.

After breaking off, the die fragment ended up in the striking chamber.
The obverse die struck the working face of the die fragment,
transferring the design to the intact portion of the die. Every coin
struck after that has an incuse, mirror-image version of the last three digits of the date, along with an impression of the design rim.

1983-1988. Can't round it down any more from there.

The incuse date reads "987". So it's a 1987 cent.

Nice to know what date it is. The Cud Book lists it as a "no date". This is my favorite out of my small group of error coins
