Very nice piece of history! I'm not a currency collector, but I was also curious as to value. If Heritage auction sales are an indicator of value, VF25 examples sold recently from $180-420. The signer probably plays a role in value, and yours is a strong signature.

Says it's worth 2/3 of a dollar. I'll give you a dollar and you can have a profit! JK I dunno, but it's cool.

I remember bidding $70 or something on a graded colonial...$20 continental in VF I think but it ended up $120 or so.
Any currency before the 20th century is not my thing... so I can't give you a good answer.

Well, trek, the Continential Congress printed out millions of these to pay our soldiers during the Revolution, even to an extent the soldiers refused them and used them as wallpaper. These notes were not backed by anything, no specie, no government land, just paper and ink and the "Death to counterfeiters warning" You know what... I'll give you $2 for it. You can keep the profit!

Joking aside, I'm sure everyone knows to wait until the owner has 50 posts before making offers on this piece of history. Trek45, I suspect you got a real nice deal there on a historical item that will always be in demand.

I honestly think you should be able to walk into any coin/currency show and get a quick $150 for that note. Colonial-era items are always in demand...by a collector base far greater than currency alone.

the book "Paper Money of the United States" 18th ed. (2006) lists this as
CC-22 $2/3 VG 80.00, VF 400.00, UNC 1100.00
I don't know how accurate their pricing is but this should at least give you a starting point.

Wow...OK, that's an even better number than Heritage sales suggests.

Trek...welcome to the forum...I'm collecting colonial currency and you should consider starting a collection as well..however,if you are going to sell it the Forum has an active site for auctions and straight sales...and you don't have to deal with commissions!

Quote: I've watched similar notes sit for months there Really? I would seriously like to have a colonial note in my collection, but I don't know how much this one costs... what did the dealers offer?

Trek, check out a note similar to yours on ebay right now about 1-2 days out... Yours is in better condition...good luck! Heritage is an excellent auction site that get a lot of bids and will take currency that is not TPG (third party graded)
