While checking my change I ran across a 1998 D Quarter with what appears to be an extra talon on the eagles left leg. I am a novice at best regarding error coins so I thought it would be best to get the opinion of experts on this coin forum. I would also like your opinion if this coin is considered a coin worth getting graded based on the possible 4th talon error as opposed to the condition of the coin as a whole. I am attaching photos which I hope are good enough to make a determination. TY in advance

Too close of an image. This could be an incuse mark like we would see on Machine Doubling. If the overall size of the area of the foot is normal in size, then it is not a DDR, but just Machine Doubling.

probably hit by another coin, but to be sure we need sharper images not magnified so much, and proper orientation (rotation) helps

Hope this one helps a bit. I have tried to down download a bigger more full pic but I could not get the pics down to a small enough jpg. Thanks for responses I received so far. God Speed to all.

I believe it's only a mark of some sort, it it would take a lot more to be worth having it graded. Check eBays sold listings to check relative values.

that second image is MUCH better thanks. the mark looks incuse, I'll say that it is a possible circulation hit moving the metal over a bit. I'm going to go research if there is any match.

I'm going to say after comparing other 1988 quarters, the talon is thinner (probably cut into 2 pieces by a hit)

Here is what a doubled die would look like on a doubled talon: Your coin is just seeing coin contact. (Note all the toes would show the same exact hub doubling if it is the real thing)
