Today I had every auction I had on (all 120 of them) pulled from ebay because as one of my payment option in the description of the auction was cash.

I phoned ebay to discuss this and was told that ebay discouraged the use of cash as a payment method and that their preference is a more secure method like Paypal (suprise...suprise).

After a lengthy discussion the Canadian person on the phone (funny ringing Canada when I dialed an Aussie phone number) I was told (tongue in cheek) that he would not be suprised if ebay in the future made it a condition that Paypal was the only accepted method of paying for ebay auctions.

I am of the view that ebay is just getting too big and is starting to place unnecessary and costly demands on sellers. Sellers are the ones that pay Ebays bills but in my view it is the sellers that are getting constantly messed with by some unreasonable seller policies that do not allow sellers to cover reasonable costs that other methods of selling allow you to do.

The problem with that is Bigfella is looking for a larger purchasing audience.

The problem with ebay is it is world wide but they have forgoten to go in a fix some of their rules

I have cash written in my auctions aswell, not one pulled yet.

It would be insane to pull an auction for that reason. I would be haveing a few harsh words with ebay if I was you Bigfella.

It seems to insane to be true.

Unfortunately they announced months ago that they would start pulling listings with cash and Bidpay in them. However Bidpay was bought out after closing and will be back in a few weeks.

The biggest problem I have with ebay is they are essentially the only option in Australia. They are in effect a monopoly. Because of this there is no competition so they do what they want...even if it goes against sense or to anny sellers. The problem is that their is no other option and there are too many sellers that need online auctions to pay the bills. If there were other options then they would not make up stupid rules only to make more money for themself and to make sellers angry.

Is that the only reason they pulled 120 auctions without a warning?

I think "discouraged" is too mild a word to take such drastic action against your business activity. And you needed to call them to find out "why?".

That is so rude and agrogant as to make it on par with the type of politeness of the Tax Department.

I know how it feels.

Do you mind me asking what the end result was? Did they re-instate them? Or do you have to relist?

Bigfella,
If your listings were pulled does that mean you lost out on the insertion fees? If I were you and I had cash as an option and pickup as an option and a shop as I believe you do I would be very irate by now.

The guy on the phone used the wrong wording. It's flat out not allowed and we were given almost 2 months warning.

Not true, There are tons of other options here, and we have the same rules here.

His fees should already be refunded for all of them. He will have to relist.

Won't help. Sorry Bigfella, as much as I hate ebay sometimes, I'm on their side on this one. Not allowing cash isn't exactly new news in the mail order world. No big mail order company will accept cash (at least here). It's a bad idea all the way around. Plus they gave 2 months notice which was plenty of time to change all our templates.
Rest in Peace

Recently, I have had several people send me cash (mostly on my Scout items) although I have discouraged it by stating in recent auctions to NOT send cash; nevertheless, even after such a statement, a couple still sent cash. Too much risk at my local Post Office, not to mention throughout the postal system. I can easily see why ebay set a policy for "no cash", but I didn't know it was a firm policy and didn't realize they were so Draconian about it. I'm tapering off my auctions for the season, but in future auctions, I think I'll add to my No Cash statement by mentioning that it's an ebay policy. It's also too darned hard to keep track of cash after I receive it; no paper trail.

I am happy they do not seem to have that kind of grip on Europe
Paypal sellers happily are saying 3-4-5% extra for using paypal
and ebay countered with a feable insurance up to 500 if you use paypal and pay 5% more

Thanks to the virtual free interbank moneytransfers in all the Euro zone many vendors say they will only accept moneytransfers or cash
at your own risk . Exception is France they still live in the personal Check age

Even so ; due to high cost I presume ; intresting coins on ebay are way down from what they were two years ago and high buy it now which never sell and high reserves and high starting prices are common in certain countries

When I buy within Australia, I always pay by bank transfer.
I use Paypal for overseas purchases.
The banks charge a heavy fee if you transfer betwwen account from different countries. I suppose they are well and truely covering themselves for fluxuations in currency values.

I cannot be on the side of a corporate entity that thinks they are God and want to dictate how my business should run. If I want to take cash and a buyer wants to pay cash that is no concern of ebay. Both ebay and paypal have interferred with legitimate sales and legal contracts which ultimate has cost me business. I know I am no lone ranger here and it is time sellers chanllange their God like mentality.

BigFella, I understand your frustration, I really do. We allowed cash also.

The problem is, we're playing in their World and whether we like it or not, they are the God of their World.

It is certainly their concern, their name is hanging on the front door. We're just little departments under one big governing roof.

You certainly are not alone. I would like to smack Meg around sometimes. I stopped getting upset about this stuff a long time ago, its just not worth the stress. When it gets to the point that we can't make enough profit to justify selling on ebay we won't.
