I had a bit of time today to get around to imaging some things that have been on my list for some time now. When I got to my 1931-S DDR I figured that it hasn't been shown here before that I could see ,so post it.
Just to check out the drool worthy ones that PCGS usually shows I took a look and all the ones on there site are not the DDR !
There is the diagnostic crack at the Bison's head but it's not in the correct position on their coins, and the one without the crack doesn't seem to show any doubling at all.
I checked out the #1 registry set and it contains one of the not it coins, ouch !
Here is a link to their page.

I am realizing that possibly everyone might be seeing the diagnostic crack at the head as the same on all coins. Here are closeups of that crack from PCGS and my coin to show the difference.

Correction here
My coin is FS-802 . PCGS did get one of their plate coins correct on this one but the other two are not this die.

Beautiful coin. (ANACS MS65 or MS66?)

Excellent images as always. And the information in your thread is fantastic for those collecting Buffalo varieties.

Just curious if the registry set is still incorrect (with their example)?

Those die cracks are very helpful for attribution but only if PCGS actually confirms the position and shape.

Ok
Let's see if I can straiten this mess out and not confuse the issue even more.
Variety Vista and Wexler both , have no cross reference to FS numbers for any of the three known Buffalo DDR's of 1931-S. As it ends up , FS-801 is DDR-002 , and , FS-802 is DDR-003. DDR-001 has no FS number and as it turns out my coin is DDR-001. That said , one of the plate coins at PCGS for FS-802 is actually DDR-001 .
NGC variety plus is the only spot that has cross references for this date.
I do wish VV or Wexler would have had those reference numbers.

They do mess up some plate coins and if you contact them they will sometimes fix them. If they have a coin to replace it. There's a Washington variety where all three plate coins are the wrong die.
