I posted a 1931-s DDR fs-801 Buffalo nickel over in our sibling variety forum. To sum it up, all the plate coins of this variety on PCGS are not fs-801 but of a die with similar diagnostics. The attributors are making the rookie mistake of attributing by markers.
My post isn't getting much love there so it might be fun to hop over and look at what PCGS is doing.

Just a note. Finally found that my coin is FS-802 instead of 801. PCGS got one of their plate coins correct though the other two are not this die.

I've seen that before also:
PCGS-Has-Done-It-This-Time-!
Again they looked at the markers rather than the variety. (they didn't know there were that year another die without the variety, with similar die chips on Liberty, but not even matching on different devices?)

I've seen not even the correct denomination on threads before over there. Well I figured, they just posted it in the wrong area. But looking at the Front page of the listing, it was totally wrong. (Wasn't even the correct series) Sorry no images of that one.

I love your example and images. PCGS , not so much.

Those die cracks are very helpful for attribution but only if PCGS actually confirms the position and shape.

Maybe attributors @ PCGS should do overlays to confirm die cracks and other markers if they have this much difficulty.

Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups.
We need to consume them regularly to thrive and grow.
