I took some of my mint and proof sets and thought I would spend some time checking them out. I came across this 1963D Quarter with an interesting D Mint Mark. Please take a look and let me know what you all think. I's not sure, these types I of strikes I'm not sure. Pictures are not great, coin still in Mint Package.

Dearborn, I couldn't find anything on this quarter. The second photo is pretty clear, These mint marks throw me for a loop sometimes. Machine Doubling? I thought it might be an RPM, Vista does not show this type. Someone has to know.

Definitely Machine Doubling. Very flat and decreased the overall size of the mint mark. These silver Washingtons almost always have MD on the mint marks.

Note the shape of the mintmark was altered. So it took a hit, or was altered by Machine Doubling.

Thank you, I was thinking it was MD due to the flatness of the Back D. Thank you all.

Arby, 63 have some issues with this. For one reason or other, the date and mint was engrave on Maser die more flat. then they transpose to master Hub and then to Working Die. This result that the working Die has flat Date and Mint mark. Any squished on the die during the strike give the impression of the DMM. For 63 I see a few RPM's but not DDMM. The RPM's I see was SEE orientated.

Thank you silviosi, enjoy learing new information, I've collected coins for many years and still always learning. Not much of a book person.
