to the CCF It looks like corrosion from being buried. Just damage, worth 5 cents. In the future please crop your pictures as per CCF instructions, we don't need to see all that background.

A nice example of post-strike damage caused within a corrosive/acidic environment--yes, likely spent some time in moist soil or a rather filthy pond.

It has heavy pitting and corrosion. Do an edge test on the coin and you should see the nickel underneath.

Slow timing acid reaction. Probably in ferrous water or in ferrous earth.

No, I agree with the others it is corrosion and not worth any premium. There are coins out there struck on the wrong planchet at the mint but these are rare. A 1944-P Jefferson nickel struck on a pre-war copper-nickel planchet and a 1980-p struck onto a cent planchet are two examples here plus there are foreign planchets that might also be out there. You can also invest in a scale if you look regularly as weight can differ from what it should be normally.

Environmental corrosion, most likely from being buried in acidic soil for a good while. Yeah, there is few very few exceptions for a wrong planchet , but this isn't one of them.
