So looking at this 1989 dime it appears that the t entrust is slightly faded and it looks like it predominantly says in God we rust instead of trust what are your guys and gals thoughts on this? Edited by Newbcoiner 07/31/2022 10:23 am

I agree, just a circulated common date coin with no value over face.

@new, in order to have a full bands designation, not only must the bands be fully struck, but also there may not be enough circulation wear to merge them together As one of the high points in the design, this area gets worn quickly when the dime is circulated.

There are some coins that are missing letters (not faded) such as the 2005 Kansas State Quarter is known as "In god we RUST".that have some small value and has increased over time because there are error collectors who want them causing demand. Furthermore, the better the overall condition of this coin, the more it's worth. This is a Struck Through Grease error or also called filled die and is clearly visible without a microscope and can be found on other types of coins and are common. Yours is not enough to be an error. Like all mechanical machines, a lubricant is needed in the coin press to prevent the metal parts from causing friction to each other. In the event of this coin's strike, some lubricating grease had escaped from the machinery onto the surface of the coin die. As a result, the grease plugged up the letter T in TRUST. Afterwards, the T was prevented from transferring to the surface of the coin.

I would say get the book strike it rich with pocket change 5th edition which is great for beginners since it will tell you some of what to look for on specific coins and what their values can be. It will mention the other missing letter errors such as on half dollars and missing edge lettering on some dollar coins and you will certainly learn from that. You can learn just reading this forum and yes there are plenty of free web sites depending what you are trying to learn that can be pointed to as needed. A book like that might help you (and others) to avoid looking for things that arent really there
