If it was a proof it would have a S mint mark. Not a D mint mark. As far as grading goes it's in pretty rough shape IMHO (In my humble opinion) so I would not have it graded

That's an Eisenhower dollar, Kennedy is on the half dollar. It's a Type 1 (wide lettering on the reverse) variety, produced at the Denver mint.

the colors are probably due to outgassing from the set's plastic, perhaps amplified by storage in a hot environment, collectors would consider it environmental damage

with nick. Some people might like the toning, not a fan.

Nothing out of the ordinary here. All I am seeing is another disappointing Type 1 Ike from a troubled 1975 mint set.
I agree it is not worth getting graded. In fact, I'm an Ike nut and I'd take a hard pass on this coin.
And you are correct. This is an amazing hobby. Welcome to our world.

Nick calls it here, unsightly toning on this Denver business coin.

Thank you everyone for your feedback. I will be posting quite a bit, I have so many coins now and just as many questions :).

Welcome and put your questions. I suggest next time look at the sets you buy, many improper storage and made the coins to be worthless.

The marks on the jaw are damage to the coin. (Not a good thing for a coin) Damage lowers any premium for the coin, that it could of had. The color is wearing off on the coin, so it was a toning process that coins go through.
