Here is a Massachusetts Bay Tercentenary medal by Straker & Freeman Die Cutters, with dual 1630 and 1930 dates. It is bronze, 26mm. I think this one may be on the scarcer side.



There is a story behind it. It comes from a cross-country coin hunting trip I did way back when I was in high school. I was buying coins for clients even then. I ended up with a couple not-so-pretty VF-ish 1894 Morgans from some horse trading. From my scrawled notes, I took those to the show and swapped the more ugly but slightly higher grade of the two to a dealer for a damaged G/VG-ish 1874-CC half and some other coins that I didn't list. The poor eagle on that half looked like he had lost a sword fight with Col. Sanders. I swapped the 1874-CC half to a dealer with a thick Boston accent for three absolutely beautiful gem BU early Buffs (1914, 1915, 1916) for a client, and then kept adding on other things to "even up" the trade. I was way ahead on the trade and knew it. After the dealer threw in a few circulated Barber halves, a few circulated IHCs, a BU pre-war Lincoln, and a couple average circulated early Washington quarters, he said he was done. I remember telling him there had to be more and asking him to come up with stuff he was tired of carting around to shows. He found a box of medals and told me I could pick 5. I think I came back with 10 and we haggled it to 8. So that's how I ended up with this medal. I keep it just for the memories of being an annoying horse-trading munchkin.

One more dual-dated medal and I'm done. This is an odd one. It's a Franklin Mint 50th Anniversary medal for US Bronze Powders, Inc., dual dated 1918 and 1968. It is 39 mm, silver clad bronze, with a finely reeded edge (280 reeds). From what I could find out, there are also two different bronze versions. This version apparently had a striking of 550 medals.
