on this 1997 D cent is that a slight doubling on the back side of the ear and is that a doubling on the bow tie or a small Cud or is it something else

The ear is a lot stronger than what you are looking at:

Your coin is a normal die example. There is a marker on the REAL deal. On the lower bust area on the rim:

It is on all of the real ones. (The same spread as on the ear)

With the marks on the ear area, to me it looks more like die polishing that the machine dipped into the void for the bust. When the sub devices are affected on the die, it will leave a polished off void. The void will look like a slight raised on the coin. Not Machine Doubling, as nothing is moved on that area. (MD causes the contour to be pushed aside. But what ever happened it was a die event, not a die variety that caused the issue.
