All of my 2,000+ coins are in 2x2's.
I have been using recycled four ring trade sample albums for the last 30 years. They were throw outs, but they are better than three ring coin albums. They can accommodate up to 17 x 20 pocket archival quality coin album pages. (340 coins)
Four ring binders are better, because they can more easily handle an album page with 20 crown sized silver coins, which can weigh over half a kilogram. Less stress on the album page holes.
With 340 coins, the whole album can weigh over 5 kilograms
For this reason, always store coin albums flat. Less stress on the bindings, just as with a large and heavy book.
Archival quality album pages are made from polypropylene, or thick Mylar. Thick Mylar is more expensive.
