. I'm trying to picture how this happened.
I've seen die dings and can picture how they happen.

I'm pretty sure I'm confusing myself so I'll ask you all for help.
With these the field doesn't seem to be affected. The ( notches?) doesn't look like they've been done post strike. You can see the ( flow lines?) all the way through inside all the notches. I can only get a couple close ups with my set up but the lines are not missing on any of them.

Lol. I hope I didn't confuse anyone/everyone.
I hope pictures can explain better.
Thank you for looking and opinions.
Opinions about the coin and not me. Please.

Are the marks incuse? It looks like dents on the coin. It is possible that something was pressed against the rim to indent it like that.

Thank you both for your thoughts.
I think I'm going with die dents.
I still wonder how the grinding marks got down in the notches. Like where the arrow points to.

Those grinding marks might be metal flow lines.

Die dents would result in a raised mark on the coin.

I've seen something similar to this on the MAD Clash Lists:
2000-D-LMC.-Rim-Problem
But to me these looks like they were a die dropped onto another die and left dent on possibly both dies. (But that is just my opinion. But it would explain why the fields on these are the only thing affected as the dies outside edge is the fields)
