Yet another silver Deccan tanka from the Bahmani's. This time it is a 1390 C.E. / AH 792 courtesy of Muhammad Shah II. 17 more years and it is all over for the 6th edition.... .maybe

My coin for 1389 is this Timurid AR "miri" or dirham, minted in the name of Chaghatai Khan Mahmud, a powerless overlord of Tamerland and Tamerlane himself.A nice example of a coin of one of the most infamous rulers of all times! Reverse: There is no deity except God, Muhammad is the messenger of God, followed by the date and mint "Zarb Samarqand (79)1"; inside a dotted square. The 1 of the date is at k7.

Thanks Dearborn. Some dates can be tricky on Islamic coins, this one is deduced from the date and the known information regarding Khan Mahmud. He was installed by Timerlane as khan in AH 786 and died AH 800. The only year ending in a 1 is of course 791. There was a miri under his name in the year AH801, but this posthumous release is a different type shown here. On my coin the date (79)1 is almost totaly off flan, with only the top half of the numeral 1 showing at k7 on the reverse.
