1976 was an amazingly hot year in the UK with a long dry summer, but the coins issued were fairly boring. No 5p coins were issued for circulation, but The Royal Mint started releasing annual Proof Sets: sets dated from 1972 to 1975 were made available to the public in early 1976, along with 1976 sets. Interestingly the 1976 2p coin is much scarcer than its mintage figure would suggest: The Royal Mint claims that 181,379,000 were struck (compared with 145,545,000 in 1975) but in searching through over 1,450 2p coins I've found 32 dated 1975 but only 5 dated 1976, suggesting that the mintage figure was more like 25,000,000 - by no means rare, but quite hard to find in change... UK circulating coins ftom 1976: The Isle of Man redesigned its coins in 1976 for the first (but by no means the last!) time since 1971, and issued Uncirculated and various Proof Sets of the new coins: The Isle of Man also issued two commemorative crowns in 1976, one commemorating the centenary of the island's famous horse-drawn streetcars: The other featured George Washington and commemorated the bicentenary of American independence: Both had the standard Machin portrait of the Queen on the obverse.

NZ Proof set 1976, the last year of a non silver dollar (Other than 1974 as a one off). Close up of $1 and 50 cent with frosted cameo. 1976 was the year I was born! 1976 Seychelles Proof set with silver 5 and 10 Rupees. The leader James Mancham was overthrown in 1977 by a guy called Rene France.
