Hi all,

Just getting started on penny hunting so I haven't seen enough to know for sure if things are PMD or actual error or varieties.

This penny has straight lines all over (seemingly matching on both sides) and the colour is quite nice.

Thoughs?

Looks like a combination of deliberate damage (scratches) and staining from some unknown source.

Your are correct when you said PMD.
Copper can change many colours depending on the environment
it was exposed too. Yours chose to turn to a reddish colour.
It is worth it's weight in copper.

Looks like it was buried for a while and cleaned with steel wool.

Looks like a cleaning experiment with vinegar and salt, followed by steel wool or abrasive scrubby sponge. I saw the vinegar and salt thing a while ago and tried it on some pocket change; it gave the coins that same pinkish/orange color.
