If one guy held it this long, I want to meet the chap! What you're seeing is "generational wear", e.g. the natural wear progression and toning over it's life history as it traveled from collector to collector. Some also call it "slide wear" harkening back to the days when collectors stored coins loosely in drawers. This caused coins to develop a light wear pattern. Typically, this type of wear should not preclude a coin from a mint state grade. All the coins in the collecting world had to travel from a mint and through a lot of hands to get to you.
