Hi, I'm new here. I just found this nickel and don't know anything about it. I can't see a date so not sure if the year. Can anyone give me their thoughts about it? Is it a true mint error?

Somebody went to town on that nickel with sandpaper or something similar. You can tell by the scratch type marks left behind by whatever was used. There is nothing during the minting process that would cause this sort of thing. People do strange things to coins sometimes, either for fun or to try to fake an error coin.

Just a damaged coin worth 5 cents if you can get someone to accept it.

I don't always agree with Mr Frog, but when I do, he's right!
