Hello everyone, I found a number of old coins in my drawer and I am planning to sell them on ebay. However, the coins' luster faded through time. I'm not a coin collector so I don't know if I should clean it or not before I put it on auction. do you have any suggestions? the coins are 1975 5 Philippine peso (Marcos era)

thanks so much y'all!!!
E!

You should not clean any coin you are planning to sell. It decreases value and takes more of the beauty away

Welcome to the forum esthon, enjoy your stay here.

Coin collecting Rule number one: Don't clean coins

The 1975 Philippines 5 Peso coin has a mintage of 20,000,000. It has a value of about $1 US.

Welcome to our CC family.

I strongly suggest that do not clean any of the coins. Cleaning will reduce the value.

As has been pointed out, these coins don't have a high collector value anyway and you may not want waste the listing and final value fees to list them. Those fees add up quickly.

Hope you stick around for a while. We'll be more than happy to help you out with any of the coins you have.

The grade of the coin is determined by the wear mainly. Here is a thread I remember, the coins shown are canadian but you can get the idea about grading.

You can also post a picture of both sides of the coin and I'm sure guys here will give you their opinion of the grade.

Mintage numbers? Well you need to check a catalogue or maybe the mint has published some figures on the web site.

We have a Coin Grading Practice section. You can post large, clear pictures there and get the opinions from our members, many of whom are very experienced collectors and dealers. We actually have a member who posts their coins there and then links to the thread in their ebay auctions to show how they arrived at the grade range they put in their auctions.

I've sold some coins on ebay and Bidville without any grade description at all. I just posted good scans and wrote that I had larger ones I could send a bidder if they wanted to look at them.

While description is one thing, you should try to take excellent photos. Excellent pictures usually count more.
