Hi all,

Not sure about this one. Could just be a well circulated 1978 LMC, but some of the devices (especially the date and ONE CENT) seem a bit "mushy."

Could it be struck through some light grease? Or am I reading too much into it?

Could be two things going on with this coin:
1. If Grease Fill were an issue, the devices will be wider looking on the affected areas.
2. If the die was polished, the devices would be smaller than normal and shorter in height.
Looks like on your coin, the devices look wider/shorter. So that is the probable cause for this weakness, Struck Through Grease. The devices on this years design tends to be larger than different years.

Sometimes it takes education for the eyes to get familiar with different years design differences. The master hub was starting to swell and they replaced it again in 1982 as it was creating dies will much larger devices.

When the new master hub was created that year, they had the large/small dates that year. So the master hub is sometimes the issue with more master dies were made during that time period.

Something to think about:

1. The movie Grease was released in 1978
2. Olivia Newton John, female lead on that movie, passed away today

And now a question about a 1978 Greaser? This is not a coincidence. This is.well, it's something.

@KenKat, I was about to throw this one back, but I might stick it in a 2x2 just for kicks after reading your comment.

May have been grease...may have been a die at the end of it's life...right now it is just a circulated coin.
