I could use some help figuring out what is going on with this 1947 S Lincoln Wheat penny. It originally caught my eye from the obvious stripe. While photographing the penny I ran into an issue of getting "LIBERTY" in focus. I am a professional photographer so honestly I let it consume too much of my time (drove met nutz) before deciding there must me something going on with the word itself. Could somebody please take a look at the photos and let me know if I finally need to get glasses?

thx

The stripe was caused by something covering that portion
of the cent for a while leaving the rest exposed to tone.
The word LIBERTY looks like it has taken a a hit moving the metal.
Both are considered damage and add no value.
Nice photos by the way, no distracting glare.

I agree with JimmyD--post-strike issues, not mint errors.

Occasionally, these wide bands, or stripes, were caused by early collectors placing clear tape across the coin to keep it fixed within a lose folder hole. Eventually the collector removes the coin--and tape--and the coin returns to a life of circulation. I've seen several coins like this over many decades of searching. Even found a few old Whitman folders with some coins still taped within them. Not 100% sure with your coin, but does have that look.

It looks like whatever it was that caused the stripe may have trapped something corrosive under its surface or it may have been corrosive itself. The area in question seems to be etched. Is that area rough or is it just oddly toned?

Or glue at one time, that was there for a while, protecting the original surface, now removed showing a different color on the coin. Not a plus for the coin. Just a Wheat cent now.
