I just noticed today that Fiji has a new 88 cent banknote out. I don't usually collect non-circulating coinage or banknotes. However, I did pick up the first $7 rugby note out of curiosity though. I also saw they have another rugby $7 bill out and a commemorative $50 bill. I'm just curious as to others thoughts on Fiji's commemorative banknotes or non-circulating banknotes in general.

They are perhaps more popular with "thematic" collectors, rather than national-set collectors. If "sport on banknotes" is a collecting theme, then you're going to want those Rugby 7 notes.

Here's my only commemorative note from Fiji:

I like commemorative notes issued for use by the general public but I did not buy the above Y2K note b/c it commemorated the year 2000. TBH, I bought it b/c it was UNC & cheap (a lot cheaper than P-103 the non-circulating $2000 note!). The $2000 note has zero collector interest to me (b/c it wasn't issued to general population). It was made for an elite segment of the population who don't know what to do with their money. 99% of these people have never opened up a SCWPM, rarely peruse the CCF (or forums) b/c they don't care what they collect. And the sad thing about these big notes is that after they sell them, there's typically a whole plethora of commemoratives appear (like in the Philippines).

Issued to be circulated
Non-circulated

If it is non-circulated, then I want a perfect PMG UNC70 with a star! I know that may sound extreme but if you're going to charge me that kind of money for a limited edition note, then it better be flawless delivered by the bank governor him/herself . This makes the whole idea of grading pointless IMO. So, I will never be buying non-issued, specimens, printer's proofs & the like.

I don't collect Fijian banknotes. I'm more of a coin fan. The coins of Fiji really fascinated me.
P.S.I don't have any Fijian banknotes.
