I'm going with severe one sided artificial toning on this one...MS otherwise. I think it has more colors than the rainbow. I'd be curious to see if/how the edge is toned.

Genuine - Questionable Toning

Does not appeal to me but somebody liked it enough to pony up the grading fees and probably lose some money on it in the process.

Price? Today, I don't know, but it started out at 3$ about 48/years ago.

The question is if the toning is natural or not. There is some precedent for this degree of color so it's hard to say....

As far as value, the 74D's are on the low end for Ikes, even a MS67 isn't worth big money compared to other years.

Disclaimer: I'm fairly new to grading but have been collecting Ikes for many years

If the grader say ok for this coin, then they have to look for new graders. Toning like this will never happened. The spectrum is not there. For more details on the this kind of toning, Ken Potter has the best explanations.

Verification of certification numbers on the PCGS Certification Database does not eliminate the risk of buying counterfeit and altered coins. Though uncommon, counterfeiters may also counterfeit PCGS grading inserts using actual certification numbers derived from public sources.

Do you verify this coin? This coin was sell to a very appreciate and big collector.

Can you put me a 200 to 500x pic of the printing sticker, please.

There was a dealer from Utah about 20 or 25 years ago that had showcases full of colorful coins like this at shows out West. I don't know whatever happened to him but it sure looks like the type of stuff he had on display. Amazingly all of it for sale!

Smucks like us that send coins in that look like this for grading end up with details grades and/or coins back in body bags!

Big coin dealers and auction houses that send coins like this in get the benefit of doubt, a few winks and a nod and coins back with popped grades!

Simply amazing!

I've seen this kind of color on Franklin halves, Washington quarters, Roosevelt dimes, and other silver Ikes. The palette and hue of (the range and combo of the) colors, along with the surfaces makes me think this toning is real.

As far as the price - well - right now building Ike sets (and proof Lincolns) is a really big thing. As a result stupid prices for finest knowns are in the stratosphere.

Sperber at Legend and Shepherd at Simco have clients building finest known sets.
