I have a 1940 nickel to me looks in good condition I'll have pics later just curious if there are any worth anything

Only if it is in MS condition. If it has full steps then you have a winner
otherwise any value would depend on condition.
1940 is not really that old as well as the fact there were over 176 million
produced from the Philadelphia mint alone so they are not rare.

I agree.
Unless in high MS the coin is common and is worth a tiny premium above face value.

steps and not circulated is probably worth a few dollars, higher value would require unlikely high grades

Plain and simple ; For it to be of any value the coin would have to be MS-67 and 5 or 6 uninterrupted steps .
