1971 Lincoln Memorial Cent / LMC Unsure If This Is A Die Issue?

smat45 Pillar of the Community United States 2333 Posts	Posted 08/13/2022 08:58 am Hi All, Not sure what happened with this obverse die...? Looks like ants at a picnic. Couldn't capture a full obverse pic with my cam set up...these are from my cheap scope...and the reverse is unremarkable (normal) Over all coin is in AU condition with pleanty of color to call him RB. Do you think it was caused by a rusted/corroded die? Acid treated die? Does not look like PMD or science experiment or surface corrosion...? Anyone else seen something like this on a LMC? Cujohn Pillar of the Community United States 7174 Posts	Posted 08/13/2022 6:32 pm I would think if it was acid, it would affect the whole coin. smat45 Pillar of the Community United States 2333 Posts	Posted 08/14/2022 06:11 am Acid does sound like the culprit...this would cause pitting on the die...thus having incuse markes and when striking the plancet would leave raised impressions on the coin.
