I picked this one up because of the cracks on the reverse. I see some clashing but no letter transfer. Is this one attributable? I have about 75 Morgans dated 1883-O with 17 of them being VAM-1C, from EDS 1C1 in DMPL to LDS 1C2 where the Eagles' right wing tip is about to break out to the 1C3 stage (still need a true 1C3) The day I joined VAMWorld1 there was a post about the 1C and it caught my interest. I immediately went to ebay looking for unattributed examples. Many are posted here in the VAM section and many more are not. http://goccf.com/t/264682&SearchTerms=1883-OMy die study of 1883-O is tiny compared to a couple of VAMWorld members including Ray Sanchez(aka raynat) and Nate Milliard (aka twodsonegf on CCF - RIP) who actually did perform the die study. I actually met Ray at a coin show in Dallas a few years back. Funny story, I walked up to a table/ case full on rattler Morgans and asked the gentleman if I could look at his 1883-O Morgans. His reply was after the person standing next to me was finished. Turned out to be Ray Sanchez. While talking 1883-O VAM stuff he pulled a DMPL 1C1 out of his pocket that he cherry picked earlier that day. It was a beauty and a slightly earlier strike than my example from the look of it. By the way, there is a hot topic/ debate going on VAMworld2 right now regarding the die issue seen on the 1883-O 1C reverse and more specifically the 1889 VAM-23A, B, 7A, B obverse.
My pony is on the side line for that one. I worked in the tool and die business for 40 years and know the cause. That is part of the allure for me collecting 1C's and I also have a few others from the buffed reverses list.

I'm very glad you decided to talk about your 1883-O interest. Fascinating things can be found in this VAM thing! I'm a recent convert of about one year and only find time here and there to hunt for them. I am going to go back and read the posts you linked for reference. I wouldn't say I am focusing on any certain issue, but I find myself drawn to the 1900O and 1880O series more often than not. And, who doesn't like the endless "crackiness" of the 1921Ds! I recently joined SSDC to gain access to their library. I haven't been on the VAMWorld forum very much, but will also look for the discussion you mentioned. You are a valued resource here on CCF! By the way - I think the prettiest Morgan by far I have acquired is an 1883O VAM-52a. The concavity somehow adds to the flash of the coin.

I appreciate your kind words and yeah, 52A is a cool die stage.
A few of the not so common but cool issues of '83-O are 1D, 2 and 33.
