I am curious about which is the anvil die, normally in UK, and in particular when India was under UK dominion. The 1/12 ANNA especially. Can anyone enlighten me? I might ask the same question, but in reference to theCanadian coins. Do they shift dies for certain purposes, such as in commemoratives?
thanks for the info.

By ancient tradition (which Britain and British dominions would normally follow), the anvil (or lower) die is the obverse, which for British/Dominion coins is the side with the portrait.

SAP, thank you. I suspected as much, for obvious reasons, but though it would be a good idea to ask.
Did you buy some LWC from the guy selling rolls, that I had left feedback for, about a month, or so ago? I have been trying to recall who it was, because I want to get some more. I am not sure if it was you, osomeone else, but the name is familiar. I cautioned you about another, who shall be nameless, for obvious reasons. I know this is in the wrong section, but when memory lights up, sometimes I am awake!
XCorrect me if I am wrong.

Sap, that's an interesting detail. If the obverse die is contained in the collar, that might suggest why this die did not completely break apart, despite the numerous cracks.

Detail of obverse on 1908 1/12 Anna.
