Really tempted by this. Love the die polishing lines.

But I am concerned about the surfaces on the obverse device (cheek). Cleaned/polished or original?

What grade do you propose?

It looks like a high grade coin, but the photo of the obverse is so 'washed out' that it's hard to tell. Perhaps you should ask the seller to send you another photo.

I agree:- the lighting conditions prevents a buyer from accurately assessing the coin.
I agree with NumisRob, ask for better photos.

This a case where an intending buyer is much better off,
if the coin could be examined in hand.
That is my normal policy, and why I attend public auction view days. However, I readily understand that few people can do that.

Maybe I will take the risk that I have to pay return shipping if I do not like the coin and want to return it.

The seller is a quite large company, I doubt that they will take extra pictures for a two digit value coin.

Well - the coin at the seller's own site: https://www.numiscorner.com/product...km-817-1-le#

There it states: "Coin defect : cleaning".

If you take the risk, at least you will have the advantage of closely examining it in hand, which is what I have done with almost every coin I have bought.

The difference is that I examine in hand before deciding to buy, and thus no risk.

For grade, I would guess AU-55 cleaned.
Perhaps before cleaning, it may have made MS-63 straight.

Looks AU but the lighting in the photos are possibly hiding surface problems. Only buy it if it has a return privilege.

How funny, when I looked at the obverse photo I thought that cheek looks polished. I was about to comment saying au details but others have pointed it out anyway. Avoid the coin.

I have decided on a hopefully better one (date 1888). Pics in some weeks. (holiday is coming up - maybe I even bring some coins back from it).
