The D was struck somewhere between end of the November and begin of December. I never find in the wild, nor I have. It is a interesting coin to have in collection.

@makecents Thanks! I would like to find the p also! When I stopped concentrating on the ear so much and gave them both equal time that's when I found it. I guess FG was jealous! Lol

@Silviosi. It really is I've been hoping to find one for a long time now. And alot of the newer members know about the 1988 double ear but they may not know about the Transitional 1988 P&D.

@DMN from a few years here I try to educate peoples on transitional. We have to go ahead and explain exact how is happened and why, Manny articles wrote with no consensus or many Y-tuber start topics on and are not back-up by no evidences.

The transitional are hard to spot and also to find. Reason? Is the end of Mint production, and in general will be deposit in reserve. I have some which was say is normal, but those are unique certify?!!! BOO.

Look forward for those coins, it is a big market for.

@Silviosi. You are right. Alot of the newer enthusiasts concentrate on the 82-83 transition Lincoln Pennies because they are talked about alot and there are more then those just those two years to look for and find.

Very nice find! This is quite a rare variety. I've found the P, but still looking for the D.

@dearborn in late 1988 the mint ran out of 1988 reverse dies and started using some of the 1989 dies which had a slightly updated design. The FG at the foot of the memorial building was made more prominent, and the font on the FG and the whole reverse was changed slightly. Specifically, the G in the FG was given a flared lip and the letters in United States of America were made slightly wider and flatter. These are pretty rare as the dies were only used for a short time and none seem to have been used past an early die state.

@DEAR: Your question is legitim for purpose to know. We have transitional strike for many years which no one look for. How this happened? Simply.

The Mint prepare the new dies for the next year strike for 1 of December every year. If the actual stock of the year Dies is finish or could not be reuse, they took a few from the stock for the next year. This it is the transitional. And other thing, for example 1967-1968 quarters has 5 transitional varieties. A mention here it is that no many know that at the end of the calendar year in general around 20 of December the Mint destroy all the Dies use. Please read again the document of the Mint I have send to you few months ahead.

@SamCoin Thanks! And thanks to both makecents and yourself for elaborating more on the subject. I always believe that understanding with explanations, visual aids and research is the key to helping understand a lot of thing's in the world of coins or life in general.

@DMN, In order to see the transitional in the begin you has to equipt you with a soft which can compare the designs. Upon the time your eyes will recognize very fast. Took me 5 years for this.

@DMN: If you go on this collecting, you has big values coins, not a small few bucks for a minor double dies or RPM. And do not forgot never, transitional it is a very short time strike and very low mintage numbers.
