Got this dime a few weeks ago. Cousin owed me 5bucks,ask me could he pay in changesure can! Is this coin worth me sending it off for grading? Missing clayed1.8grams also has crack run from bottom of neck all the way to the top of Roosevelt head. Look like it has some double on Observe n Reserve with black trails think it's worth my time? Appreciate any info pic1 coin under regular light pic2 camera effect to see crack better and possible doubling

to the CCF!

With the weight of 1.8 grams and the apparent weakness of the strike, this does look like a missing obverse clad layer.

I would like to see images of the coin with the color corrected and an edge shot if possible.

The value of the error isn't one that would justify the cost of grading, but the coin is a nice error and worth $20 or more in this condition.

Check the 'Sold' listings dimes with a missing clad layer. Keep in mind that some of the coins that sold on ebay were not real missing clad coins, but toned and damaged. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_dm...ime&_sacat=0

Edit: didn't see you'd already weighed it. In that case, I'd say confirmed missing clad lager in my book! Great find!

Make sure you don't touch anything but the edges with your fingers, and don't clean it with anything but water or 100% pure acetone (not nail polish remover, and don't scrub or or abraid the surface in any way. Just soak.)

Missing clad dimes show weakness of strike, even on dimes that are missing a clad:

The color is correct for a missing clad. (red, not brown as metal detector finds are on both sides) Your looks like the real deal. Note the obverse rims? There was not enough metal there for a normal strike with the missing clad on the reverse.

Dollar: Copper wash coin
So does this hold true on other clad coins? Yes, even more so:

Post strike removals:
On a missing clad and clad that was removed, the strike is totally different.

Note the ghost look on the clad area that was removed. This could have been a high dollar coin is the cladding was not removed. It would have been a clamshell coin: (what that?)

A lot better premium for the clam shell coin. So don't remove a partial missing clad coin.

CoopHome: How to tell if a missing clad happened on a coin? red color and strike will be weaken because of the missing cladding- clam shell coin example
