This is what is known to ancients collectors as a "slug". The coin was probably quite well-worn before it got lost and buried, and the resultant corrosion has obliterated most of the surviving detail. I think that's emperor Hadrian, or what's left of him anyway, but beyond that it's impossible to identify, and no amount of cleaning will help.
Buying uncleaned ancient coins is always a gamble. It's a bit like fossil hunting: some rocks contain beautiful fossils, other identical-looking rocks... are just rocks.

It should also be pointed out that Dirtyoldcoins is one of the better suppliers of uncleaned coins. They try to filter out the obvious slugs from their uncleaned batches.

well.. I ordered 5 "Big uncleaned coins" (this batch is now sold out) from dirty old coins.. but anyway, they were all bad! :( I knew I would not find anything of real worth, but hoping that at least 1 would be identifiable.. not the case. oh well, you get what you paid for! LOL

@wts, I agree that this seems like It must be Roman, so I'm going to move your thread to the ancients subforum. Perhaps we can get a confirmation on the emperor.

This coin is completely "clean". The green isn't something that can be cleaned off; it's the actual mineralized surface of the coin.

I actually like the green mineral on the coin. It's a great thickness and color.
Keep it in your mineral collection.
