Those are zinc bubbles, quit common on zincoins.
They will just get worse as time goes on and zinc rot will set in.

I figured that might be the issue. So since it's randomly placed it lacks any value?

You'll likely notice that many zinc Lincoln cents, especially from the early and mid 1980s, seem to have tiny bubbles. These bubbles are due to an issue where the copper didn't adhere to the zinc core as well as it should. Normally, unless drastic, zinc pennies with bubbles aren't worth anything more than their regular value and, often, are viewed as imperfections that actually diminish the value of uncirculated zinc Lincoln cents. However when it does something interesting like yours due to placement of the bubbles (wow thats cool) that you are able to give a nickname... which also happens with things like common die chips on occasion, that can cause demand for the specific example you have and therefore will sell if desired.

This is the Cancer of Zinc Coins and is referred to as Zinc Rot. It can transfer and affect other Zincoln's and may worsen over time so unfortunately not a great long term collectible but cool enough I would keep unless it gets much worse. Basically, zinc rot is similar to rust on a car. The copper coated zinc cents that started in mid-1982 are primarily zinc, with a thin copper plating. Once the copper is breached and the zinc is exposed to certain environments, it can start to corrode just like a scratch on the fender of a car.

@mav, first welcome to CCF. Second, yes correct that there is no numismatic premium for plating bubbles.
