Hi, my name is Greg. I am new to this forum. I have been collecting old U.S. coins since I was a kid from flee markets and finding silver in my pocket change. I recently inherited a collection from my grandfather. I found an 1882 indian head that has a large crack on the front side and what I believe are called Cud marks on the back side. I am not very familiar with error coins. I only have 2 in my current collection that I believe have errors including this coin. Could anyone tell me if this is a cracked die coin and what are the marks on the back side? My apologies for the picture quality. Any information and possible value is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

@class, first welcome to CCF. Second, I agree with the frog that the linear cut in the surface of this coin is damage rather than a mint error.

I see no Cuds,CUDS always include the rim. There is a lump of some kind by the shield? Not a die crack, PMD of some sort.

Agreed, its post mint damage ( PMD). You can see the same marks on the reverse in the right area. Its almost as if it were bent along the line just slightly.
