President Biden announced he would be appointing Lynn Malerba as the Treasurer of the United States in June, but the Dept of the Treasury website says the Treasurer position is still vacant. AFAIK this is no longer a Congressionally approved appointment so what gives? why is it taking so long? when will we see Yellen/Malerba FRNs? Series 2022? Series 2023? or ever?
Any predictions? Edited by BadDog 08/30/2022 07:44 am

I've yet to hear any chatter concerning when a new series will be introduced.

Malerba's intended appointment as treasurer, which no longer needs to be confirmed by the Senate, brings both her and Yellen one step closer to getting their names on the U.S. dollar. Yellen provided her official signature for that purpose in March 2021, but it has yet to appear on cash because bureaucratic rules require the signatures of the treasury secretary and treasurer to be added to a new series of currency at the same time. The role of treasurer has been vacant since Jovita Carranza left in January 2020 to become Small Business Administrator in the Trump administration. That's why the signature of former Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin still appears on $1 bills. It may still take a bit more time for the new names to replace his: A Treasury representative told The New York Times that it can take up to four to five months to update printing plates for each denomination. It will be the first time that both signatures on United States paper money will both be women. This was on 6/22/22 so perhaps by the end of the year is my guess. https://www.npr.org/2022/06/22/1106...ive-american

I'm guessing it'll be late this Fall when we'll get publicity pics of them "inspecting" the 1st sheets off the presses at the BEP in Washington. The 1st notes will probably start showing up in circulation around the Christmas Holidays.
Big question is when the uncut sheets will show up on the usmint.gov website. Maybe July of 2023?

I'm glad to see this topic posted. I was afraid of starting one since I'm much more familiar with posting on the coin sections...anyway I have been waiting with bated breath for these notes. My two kids (ages 3 and 5) will each be getting a stack of 100 sequentially numbered notes from this series to celebrate the importance of it. I had assumed that I'd also be able to buy a stack as a Christmas gift for my sister in law. But at this rate I wonder if they will come to be known as Series 2023 Yellen dollars.

Quote: I didn't realize they sold uncut sheets on the Mint website The BEP website (www.money factory.com) eventually leads you to the mint's website (www.usmint.gov) where you can make currency and related item purchases. It's been that way a few years now. Probably was done as some kinda "cost saving measure" at the suggestion of the Mint's contractor fulfillment agency in Memphis.

At SteveinTampa, good.
I am collecting one denom from every series year and I will be skipping over the 2017 and 2017A as I do not view them as legitimate.

I'm ready for these. I think I'm going to get a strap of Washingtons with sequential numbers and try that new slab service from PCGS.
Yellens for all my relatives as Christmas presents, too!

Not sure if I'm allowed to post a link to an external news article or not. Apparently next week Janet Yellen travels to Fort Worth to view the first printed sheets with her signature. The article says the new notes will be available early next year.
It won't be long now!!

I saw Janet Yellen on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert one night this week, and he asked her why her signature was not yet present on our currency. After explaining the situation with the Treasurer position only recently being filled, she mentioned she'd soon be traveling to Fort Worth to inspect the first sheets, as ChicagoCoinGuy mentioned.
