Hi,
I was given a stickpin/tiepin in the 1950s which I have treasured and kept in cottonwool and a box ever since.
It is an 1874 one gold dollar coin with a Princess head one side and a wheat wreath the other. It is very, very new looking with just a few scuffs. It is also very shiny. As if it has a sheen or gloss to it.
Unfortunately it has the stick pin attached to a small area at the top of the wheat wreath.
I would appreciate any information or advice regarding this beautiful item please.
Thank you.

Please supply a clear picture of both sides. It appears there may be
damage to the coin which would make it worth bullion value.

First, welcome!

The 1874 is a common date among the US gold dollars. An original example in high circulated grade is worth several hundred dollars but unfortunately since yours has been mounted in jewelry it's value is determined just by the gold content. That would be about $84 at current gold price.

Many counterfeit gold dollars exist made with correct gold content, and many of those were used in jewelry. Your coin may be genuine but we would need better photos to provide a solid opinion.

I would keep your pin as is and use it. It's a nice piece of jewelry.

I disagree on value. In the current market, this would sell on ebay for $150+ all day
