Hi everyone. Yesterday, I found a quarter in my change that looked off. It looks like a silver quarter but doesn't feel like my older silver quarters. Wondering what all of you experts think? The rim definitely does not show two colors.
It could be a plated coin. HSN were selling these by the boat load and now they are just an altered surface coin worth face value. Weight will be different on a silver coin and a clad coin: One way you can check is to make a scratch on the reeds to see if the copper is there. If will show up under plating: Your coin is too light to be a silver coin.
Interesting this. I saw some sets with inscription Gold set and Platinum sets. I get away from because of the doubt. Who done those? Someone has this information?
@sil, it looks like the ones for sale at Walmart.com were plated by Merrick Mint. You will find numerous prior CCF threads talking about their products. Here is a link to one such thread:
