Hello friends. Have a question. Found this 1983p penny last night. Noticed on the reverse it had die breaks at three corners of the memorial. And I think die gouges at the bottom. Then the other pictures show what I'm realy interested in. Could anyone help with what happened here. It's a new one to this new enthusiasts.

Looks like zinc rot under the A on the reverse. Just my opinion.

Die cracks on the corners of the building are common areas. The spot looks like zinc rot and the marks by CENT look like PMD.The coin is a spender.

I agree with John1 ... mostly.
Are the lines at CENT raised?

If so it might be a die issue. If it's raised it's not looking like a normal die crack.

Could be linear plating bubbles on the reverse.

Incuse mark: This will below the surface on the coin which would be damage
Raised device: Could be damage to the coin splitting the plating, causing the plating to rise. (Also glue will be raised on the surface of the coin)
Level with fields could be a stain from anther coin in a cup holder in a car. (it would be impossible to be a mintmark punch as only the obverse dies are sent to have a mintmark added to them)

As others have said, the marks by the C are minor die cracks (internal die break). The spot by the A is corrosion (zinc rot). The copper plating was breached and the underlying zinc is corroding

First, thanks for the welcomes. Next, thanks for the input. The thing I couldn't understand was how the circle got under the A in states. It's nice to have a place where someone new to the game can ask questions about what's what. Thanks everyone.
