I'm in the process now of protecting my coins for the long-term (say, 5-10 years). I was wondering if anyone has experienced problems (e.g., toning, yellowing, etc.) when storing coins in the following:
* cardboard 2x2 flips with mylar protectors * mylar 2x2 flips with double pockets (e.g., BCW) * ziploc non-PVC bags * Airtites
Thank you in advance!

Most toning issues are with heat and humidity, not the holders. John1

If your talking about yellowing of 2x2 cardboard holders then yes ; If they are stored for a very long time in a poor environment . I also might add rusting of the staples with the yellowing in damp locations .

Thanks Tbop. I should have been more clear. I am interested in finding out if the coins themselves experience any toning, yellowing, or other types of "damage" if left in the different coin protectors I listed in my original post.
Thanks again!

Your holders are okay as long as you remember location, location, location! Steady temperature and low humidity are your friends.

@hid, I have used stapled 2x2s for multiple decades and have not had any issues with them causing toning or discoloration.
Added: I do keep little envelopes of desiccant in the boxes with the 2x2s.

Thanks Spence. I'm quite tempted to place my coins in 2x2 cardboard mylar flips. But multiple website discourage use of these flips, especially valuable ones. So I thought I'd ask if anyone has experienced "damage" to their coins when using the different storage options.

Check this thread out. I put most of the ways I store coins. http://goccf.com/t/370336I mainly use 2x2 Mylar flips stored in single and double row boxes with desiccant packs and again into Tupperware or Pelican cases, with yet more desiccant then in a safe at home. Food safe containers should be fine for long term storage. Just remember you need to check in on them regularly at least 2-3 times each year. (I live in a humid area now, Texas vs. Colorado where I started collecting). Dark and dry storage environment - that is the key to not having problems as well as archival safe holders.
