Hello Everyone,
I would like to touch base on my 1858 10 cent piece that I believe is to be the 5/5 variety. (Refer to my prev. post with the full pictures in the link below)

Looking at the Obverse, I compared the 'G's in DEI GRATIA and Regina, and it seems the G has been repunched in Dei Gratia. Has anyone seen this before?

Your thoughts are greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

It kinda looks like just a older more worn out die, have some 1968 quarters that have a similar look in the letters they almost look broken which yours kinda does too.

Are you implying one side of the die gets worn out more soon? These 'G's are on the same obverse, I do not see how one 'G' can be more worn out than the other. In addition, it is the Reverse side that is heavily worn, The obverse looks like it is in decent shape.

Cheers,
Dystor

I believe you are correct, as the MS64 coin on PCGS pop report page for the 1858 5/5 10c shows the same. https://www.PCGS.com/valueview/vict...545350&h=pop
Save the images off and zoom in, they are quite high resolution.
Also check the I and A on yours, as the PCGS example seems to show doubling there as well.

Interestingly, the MS64+ example on that same page shows doubling all over the place, but not in the G.

Poking around the other 1858 varieties in the pop report I see that the "blundered I" has the same repunching in the D, and the 8/5 has some crazy repunching in the D and second A in Canada. I'm getting in over my head as far as what's already known, but to me clearly your G doubling isn't just die state.
