How do you do an acetone wash? Somewhere online I read you are not supposed to clean them?

Use the search box upper left of page. 100% pure acetone is fine to use.Read up on it first. John1

Nice find. Acetone won't hurt a coin.

Awesome find and in beautiful condition! Congrats on your first DDO!! When you use acetone be sure to 1. Only use 100% pure acetone from the hardware store (NOT nail polish remover), and 2. Soak the coin, but do not scrub or abraid it in any way, even with seemingly "soft" materials like cotton.

Fantastic find, CentSeeker! That's a great first doubled die, even if it took thirty years! Very nice looking coin too.

Thank you everybody! Now that I know what to look for, I have a little production line going w/ the scope and a small pc of paper under it to make it easy to move the coins around. I've been saying this is 30 yrs of pocket change but if we started filling the jug in the 80s, it is really 40 years. Wow huh? That's really something. I have some Lime Away, could I use that to clean the dirty pennies? Just kidding...

There are 9 classes of doubling to learn and look for. And Brasso works better then Lime-A-Way. John1

Quote: There are 9 classes of doubling to learn and look for. Wow! Ok well thanks for the heads up. I ruled out this one on a small bowl of 1995 pennies so far but still have about 3 bowls to go or something. Yeah I saw a video on it and I guess the 1995 D also looks a little different too where the doubling is not on LIBERTY but is mostly on IGWT. It is enlightening to actually have a doubled die in hand, to be able to actually see it in person. It sure helps moving forward. This one had a pivot at around the 4 oclock position and the doubling went counter clockwise I think they said in the video. They also confirmed it is not as noticable after IGW because of the position of the pivot point. That was mind boggling to hear after just discovering the exact same thing. Variety Vista shows there is a die chip on the first column for Stage B and no die chips on the the other Stages. So I looked and I do have the chip so this one is Stage B.
