All I can tell you is this coin is better than the PCGS ms-67 1978-d, I received earlier this year. I have compared the coins side by side and this one stomps the 67 I have. Now I may just get a 66 from this one but I have to try and see what it grades it's almost flawless with a 10X loupe! I would see if I learned anything in the last year.

I feel like a nick or two around/on the C on CENT would keep it below MS-68.
Rest in Peace

The only thing that's half worth mentioning is that small water spot by date . 67+RD .

Compared to the 67's I looked at - it should be a 68. This issue is one of the crappiest made in the series IMO. The battle is more political than technical at PCGS.

GOOD LUCK!

Here's a good comparison coin:

This is the best one I've found. Trade off for clean fields and spots, some ugly, black toning across the portrait. I hate 78D's, your find is truly exceptional IMO.

obv photo is a little blurry. one thing I have noticed is almost all the LMC's I've seen in MS67 have the cherry red color. same looking coin without that look like they are getting 66 grades. just an observation.

tiny spot by MM. light rub mark(maybe) on jaw. obv a tad off center. some spotting under STATES and very small marks bottom reverse

I couldnt find any for comparison. based on everything I think it comes in at MS66. I dont think they would give it a 66+ or above 67. so its probably going to come back as 66 or 67. good luck on this one if you submit it and post if you do.

PCGS numbers
MS66 - 200
MS66+ - 2
MS67 - 42
MS67+ - 1
MS68 - none

I don't see anything at all that should keep it out of a 67rd slab. Nice one!
