Here's an 1830 Capped Bust half dollar that I'm considering purchasing. Before I consider it further, what are your thoughts on the grade of this coin?

AU-58 details cleaned. I would recommend to find another example because these can be found in higher grades, problem free, in not a lot of time.

Thanks for the advice @jacrispies. Are the hairlines in the left obverse field indicative of a cleaning?

If you ever see a white bust half dollar, there is a good chance that it was cleaned. These were stored in conditions that easily toned the coins. In the mid 20th century, dipping coins was a big deal and a common occurrence. This coin looks dipped, with additional hairlines from a wipe.

May pull a 58, but agree it's been mishandled at the least.

AU-58 details, cleaned. It still has a nice look to it. The hairlines are probably very hard to see in hand.

AU58. I'd buy it just for the clash marks.

Agree with AU-58, possibly lightly cleaned or wiped.

I'd need to see this one in hand before spending money on it. Look at the breast area for any rub. I'm am in agreement with jacrispies on any of the white bust halves you find today have a very high percentage of being cleaned at one point, at minimum they were dipped, it may be market acceptable though and not garner a detail cleaned grade.
