Hi to all
Thank you for loooking.
I bought this piece yesterday and after identifying it as a commerative coin *Burma* ? I then sought more info.
What stuck me was the different prices people are asking from 400 to 1450.00 Dollars. Is theere something special about this coin that these prices are been asked. The coin shown here has no scratches and bumps.
So my question really is : is this a good coin to keep ?

@norm, looks like you have a Buddha Jayanthi coin from Ceylon (Sri Lanka) minted in 1957. Yours was intended for circulation but the proof ones are the coins that are more valuable. To help you with your research, here is the numista link for this coin:

Hi Spence. I did come across that site after I had posted. But thank you so much and as a real greenhorn I am still learing/guessing at the level of coins.
Many thanks once again

Norman, as a guide to what a coin is worth you need to look at what they have sold for rather than the price tag sellers are trying to sell them for. When searching ebay, go to advanced search and choose "Sold listings". Of course, coin grade and type (Proof, circulation etc) also need to be taken into account.

Hi David
Thanks I will do that as I am rather perplexed at those I have seen at high prices....theirs magnified shows serious to mild scratches..so I do realise from this great forum that mint means mint and thus the MINT prices.
Many many tks for that good advice
