There is an ebay seller, userid of *auctionkings* , that has numerous older gem BU coins for sale. Many of the photos show beautiful coins with "mirror" surfaces. Some auctions state that the coins are "FRESH FROM BANK ROLL!" I purchased several lower-cost coins from this ebay seller, and was very pleased with most of my purchases as the coins were beautiful. However, I'm not a coin grading expert, so I'm wondering what type of experiences others have had with this ebay seller. Are they reputable? Thank you in advance. Edited by Hidalgo 09/05/2022 7:39 pm

Personally, I'm skeptical. Does he show you the exact image of the coin you will receive, or just a stock photo? This is the key issue.

I believe the photos of the actual coin being sold. However, I have seen comments from buyers stating that the photos look better than the actual coin received. I'm fine with slight variations in the photos. I'm more concerned about coins being advertised as BU, but are of a lower quality. Here are some of the seller's ebay auctions. https://www.ebay.com/sch/Liberty-Wa...king+liberty

I would ask the seller straight out whether the coin you will receive is the one pictured, yes or no.
If he hedges or says no, then I'd never buy anything from the seller.

This seller's photos are low resolution compared to current standards, you can't screenshot his pics and zoom in much, it quickly goes out of focus, unclear. He sometimes has dark shadows in the fields and it's hard to see the surfaces. I think they are pics of the actual coins being sold. The coins may or may not be OK, he does offer returns.

I'm interested in seeing what you consider beautiful. Show us some pics.

With over 65,500 positives and only 1 negative, I would say he is pretty reliable.

Yes the seller has lots of positive reviews. Here's a 1880 S Morgan he recently sold for $177. The buyer left positive feedback but said the coin had some damage the pics did not show, still kept the coin. Wish I could see better pics of that flawless cheek. I don't know but I wonder if ebay sellers have some control over deleting negative/neutral feedback. Youtube hasn't shown dislike numbers for a while.

The seller has a lot of positive feedbacks, but also almost 300 revised feedbacks, which are negatives or neutrals that have been removed. And it's possible that a lot of the positive feedbacks were from buyers that didn't know any better after they received the coins. Looking at his current listings, he has a lot of identical photos, which means it's likely you would not be receiving the exact coin pictured. I would not buy from someone who uses stock photos and doesn't disclose it.

Yes. He sometimes uses the same photos. In his listings I looked at, he does not say "the coin you receive is the coin in the photos" or similar.

There are a few ebay sellers who advertise that their coins come straight from bank wrapped rolls. How many bank wrapped rolls of modern pre-1964 coins can possibly still exist? It boggles my mind.

There are many bank rolls still available from old collections . In 2016 I bought an amazing deal of over a hundred Canadian Rolls from 1949 to 1962 cents to Dollars from a US Dealer friend In WA state . Wasn't cheap but WOW coins!

Big sellers can get their negative feedback removed by ebay. It is not right, but it is true. Notice that the seller has zero negative feedback comments in the past 12 months, but on 9/5 they had one. Where did it go?
